A lot of propeller shaft material has been allowed by Japan Craft Inspection Organization (JCI).
For example, PSL-HT, KA-3, TXA208, SUS630, SUS316, SUS304, HBSB, CRB and TS-1A are products currently used in crafts. And crafts that don't need JCI test (Fishing boat etc..) can use BSBM.
The diameter of the propeller shaft is calculated by the St value (Allowable stress of material defined by JCI).

D = Diameter of the propeller shaft (mm)
C = Coefficient (Diesel) 1.08
T = Maximum continuous power (kw)
R = Rotation per minute of the continuous maximum of propeller shaft (rpm)
St = Working stress of material

Material strength is proportional to the St value of the material. The higher the St value is, the stronger and the more expensive. But if the propeller shaft is high strength, you can choose a smaller diameter shaft, and you can also reduce the size of the stern tube. So, it will be cheaper than you feel.

We usually use PSL-HT, KA-3, SUS630, TXA-208, SUS316, SUS304, HBSB or CRB.
BSB is not a licensed product, so the St value of BSB is unknown.
But maybe it's about 70.

When calculated from the conditional expression
SUS304 or CRB >>> D = 57.14
KA3 >>> D = 42.28

We recommend shaft diameter greater than these results to you.
This time, we estimate CRB and SUS304 as 65mm shaft diameter and estimate KA3 as 50mm shaft diameter.
